Energy companies will have to tell you their lowest rate. They will rearange their tarrifs to minimise their losses. No need for MSE, Energy companies now.........Have to tell YOU what the lowest rate0 -

Energy companies will have to tell you their best rate. This isn't necessarily their lowest rate.0 -
The nanny state prevails.................... :wall:
Not long ago my deal with npower ended so when I phoned them the CSA went into a lot of detail to ensure he put me on the cheapest tarif from my needs. This is without nanny state interference. Same experience with other utilities in the past.
Being very MSE I always point friends/collegues to better deals but most are simply not interested, yet people say they are skint...
What next...!0 -
Yes, people always say they are "Skint", but the vast majority wont listen when you tell them how to moneysave, be it using cashback CC, changing bank accounts, findin the best ISA, changing energy suppliers, going to water meter, etc, etc. Its always "I cant be bothered"0

That's exactly right. One of the main reason switchers are able to save (and have been able to save over the years) is the apathy of a large proportion of consumers and of course the inability of some to switch between suppliers. They lose, and we gain. It's these consumers who have always stayed with their original supplier - I know of several who are in this position.Yes, people always say they are "Skint", but the vast majority wont listen when you tell them how to moneysave, be it using cashback CC, changing bank accounts, findin the best ISA, changing energy suppliers, going to water meter, etc, etc. Its always "I cant be bothered"
Cleggy's 'idea' won't help those who already switch, instead it will probably mean some people will continue to pay a premium to their current supplier by NOT switching.0 -

^^This. Our friends think we are a little 'odd' because we hunt out the best deals, even though they are always complaining about being skint! We've given up trying to help them out because they can't be bothered to do anything pro-active. One of our friends in particular poo poos the fact we may spend 30 mins on the internet to save £100 (so £200/hr basically) as 'it takes too much time and my time at home is precious' but will gladly work overtime at £10/hr anytime. We've given up with him

It will be interesting to see what proportion of customers will even take any notice of the information they are given by the energy suppliers. You can lead a horse to water but . . .

I agree one friend in particular was struggling to feed her family and I suggested a money makeover, she never did it. However if an energy supplier knocks on her door - well she will change to you. I even did it for her putting her details into uswitch, but she wouldn't do it. I give up!0

You could be describing my friend! Been on BG standard tariff for years 'cos its to complicated to check other tariffs and switch!' I've tried to explain how simple it is and how much she could save, I've even offered to help her, but she just can't be bothered!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
