Are DLA medicals in your home or at ATOS now?

Options
At one time they always seemed to be at home whereas now I read posts of them being carried out at an ATOS centre.

Even when an ATOS based appointment was made people used to be able to request a home visit.

What is the norm now?

I always thought that it depended on the illness or condition that the person claimed to be suffering from?

Somewhere in the depth of my mind, I remember seeing a few weeks back a list which indicated (a) those that shouldn't be assessed, (b) those that had to be assessed but at home and (c) those that had to be assessed at an assessment centre.

I'll see if I can find it.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

If you are able to dig further information out I would be so grateful. I manage to get out a few days each week and often only very locally. The furthest but only now and again is within 10 miles so further would be an ordeal.

The ATOS assessments at their centres I believe are in relation to ESA.

I have always had any DLA assessment at home.

I had my last DLA medical at an ATOS centre, but the assessment is much more individual than the ESA test. While the following link is about ESA, it will help you to understand the issues, and give guidance on how to ask for a home medical: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44533954/If%20atos%20refuses%20a%20home%20visit%20and%20guidelines%20re%20requesting%20one..doc

    Thanks for your help.

I guess I will have to wait and see. Firstly if they want me to have a medical and secondly if they do where they want me to have it.

But some have it at the medical centres.

It all depends on which section of the list your condition falls in.

Yes, looking it up, it seems that centres were decided to be used in the last six years or so. http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/news-archive/178-atos-computer-controlled-nurses-to-replace-dla-doctors

Yes that is what I believed was the case.

Home visits are very rare now for DLA.
However they haven't got round to insisting on them for AA at their centres as yet. They normally do home visits for that benefit. No doubt that will be the next to change.

There is a list knocking around somewhere that indicates when someone should be called in for a DLA assesment and when they shouldn't.
For the life of me I can't find it at the moment.

    I'll dig it out

If you do find it I would still be grateful to have a read
