Help!! sorting out a dormant joint bank account

Options
Hi
wondering if anyone can cut through my mind muddle and tell me what to do please! I have a joint account, it used to be an offset mortgage account (with IF). It had separate current accounts for each of us, a shared current account and various saving 'jars'.
However my marriage broke down, the house was sold and we were left with a joint account. There has been lots of messing around with addresses for the account - my ex has moved several times. The account needs closing, there are savings within the account for our children. The main problems I have - I have lost my password to my online banking account, when I spoke to the bank about 4 years ago they told me the only way I could get the account closed was with joint signatures. My ex refuses to do this. I would like to discuss it further with the bank, but am scared that if I ask to reset my personal, and private password then it will be either sent to my ex's address or to an old address of his. My password is personal to me, and only I can access my personal account within the plan. I'm sorry if this sounds confusing . I've had my head in the sand for too long - it needs sorting. I know they have my current address as one of the named ones on the account.
Can anyone offer any advice???
Thanks

The problem is that you need the correct postcode related to the account and password before they can discuss specific details about the account. All I can do is reset the password

It's a shame that it's an online bank, as this kind of thing can often be resolved in a branch with advisors that can access the computer records and exercise a bit of discretion, rather than the "computer says no" attitude you often get from call centres.

I would probably write them a signed letter explaining that you are separated, that you want to reset your password and that it must only be sent to your address. Once you have access to the account you can take it from there.

  • Hi I am new to thisd. Wondered if anyone can help. My ex partner had his Lloyds TSC statements for a loan, credit card and current account coming to my address when we were a couple (not living together ) I allowed this as he did not want his Mum opening his post at her address ( which he used when he was in the army 2001- 2006 ). When we split in 2010, his Lloyds accounts were not being paid, he has a £1000 overdraft which he hadnt paid back as his wage was going elsewhere , a £kl loan and a £2000 credit card and he was not making any repayment, He kept saying he'd sort it , but after opening a couple , I started sending them back and writing 'not ast this address' or 'return to sender' . This mail is still coming, I have handed him a couple of letter so he can sort it but surprise surprise Im still getting them. I then rang Llolyds who said because I am not the account holder, they wont accept his new adress from me . ( Eventhough theycould then locate him and get their money back, currently £12k plus interest etc) . So since taking the loan and credit card and delving into his unplanned overdraft- theyre still sending statements and offers etc here . I have also wrote to 2 x dca's as theyve obviously bought the debt from Lloyds and are chasing him, yet again they will not discuss his account with me. What can I do about this as I dont want his debt and poor credit history affecting myself and my new partner. I have done the dissacoiation with Experian and wrote a notice of correction however , shouldnt Lloyds be glad of his new address so they can chase him for the debt, which is , after 2-3 years a considerable amount or dont they care about getting their money back ? . All advice appreciated . Thanks
