Difference between nearly new car and used car

Brand new can come with problems and endless trips back to dealers for niggling faults, a car with a few thousand on has been through the mill and had all the loose ends tied up.
As shown recently“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If you are not too fussy about colour and specification then a pre-registered car can be a good option, the dealer will show on the V5 as a previous owner but it won't have any more miles than a brand new one, it's available immediately rather than having to wait for it to be built and delivered, and there's usually a substantial discount on the list price.0

Some of the top end auctions have the mobility contracts, manhiem springs to mind, whole rows of mobility cars with mileage around 10,000 can whisk through for a fraction of a dealers price, often less than halfHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. A well maintained car from a good manufacturer should remain reliable for at least the first 7-8 years. After that it's a lottery but I've had cars that have stayed reliable well into their teens. And by reliable I mean: "no significant faults that weren't tidied up by servicing/MOT".If you want reliability, buy a repmobile, look at the car in the range aimed at the rep market and you will seek out the most reliable one they make.
This is the market where car makers make the money and put most effort in to getting right.
Someone really ought to have told Vauxhall that in the late 1990s with the Vectra... :eek:0 -

Fiat.
Especially 10 year old Punto.
Lovely little car, squire, goes like a dream. Don't you worry yourself with that gunk on the filler cap, they're all like that. We'll just put that down as a private sale, just so it doesn't go through the books see, you like a bargain don't you?0 -

Well that Citroen had one fault, the difficulty was Citroen couldn't fix it.
On the other hand I've had three brand new Mazdas and none of them have had any faults at all in the first 30 months.0 -

Thanks all.
If it is any help, I bought a 2000 Ford Mondeo Verona 1.8 at auction back in 2005, for £2350 with 27K on the clock, and I still have it with 123K on the clock, and it has cost me hardly anything.
We have been through Europe with this car, totally comfortable and reliable, and I can still get it looking like it came out of the showroom.
You do not have to spend more than £5K if you spend wisely.0
