Jobs

Mass immigration combined with rising unemployment is not a good combination. And don't give me the old tosh about needing the immigrant's skills. If we did a decent job of educating and training our own people, we would not need to poach talent from other countries.
Another 100,000 people will lose their jobs before the end of the summer says a bleak report from a think tank.

And another thing........ the education establishment have been up in arms about tougher visa rules for students. Perhaps they stop chasing after fees from overseas students and start focussing on more home grown talent.

Universities will happily focus on home-grown students if the government will support them. There are specific caps for each university and you get fined if you go over.

And with the uncertainty of higher education funding with higher fees..

Lots of things rumbling on unhappily in UK HE at the moment, it's definitely not as simple as stop the students.

Great, another thread on immigration from someone who clearly doesn't know what they're talking about.

If it were about attracting the right people with the right skills, and if immigration was managed properly (which it isn't) then it would be a positve for the country and economy. Unfortunately what the goverment are alllowing to happen is letting anybody in - including unskilleed people, criminals, and people who are immediately entitled to benefits under the crazy rules.

Well I just learned a new word, although it doesn't seem to make any sense in this context.

Oh look, an ignorant post about immigration stepped in small minded Daily Mail bigotry on the MSE Debate board, again.

Few universities have an international student body of greater than 5% of total student numbers, yet international students provide a vital stream of revenue which universities use to subsidise the shortfall in government funding, precisely so they can continue offering education to "home grown talent", which frequently costs more to educate than is ever paid back.

If international students vanished from the UK overnight many courses and some universities would close. It's as simple as that.

The truth is most of the jobs dont need a university education, a couple of weeks hands on with someone experienced get the job done.
Some jobs do require university education, so I say if it is not public sector employment let the employers foot the bill.
