Cancelling house/contents insurance early

Hi all
I recently took out a new house/contents insurance policy with a different firm which started yesterday (there was an offer on for Feb only so I started the policy early).
My current house/contents insurance doesn't expire until 28th March 2007. I pay by direct debit and I just wondered whether it is ok to cancel the D/D for the current (soon to run out) insurance and then they will just cancel the insurance! Is if OK/legal/ethical to do this?
There is only 1 more payment of £24 due out on the current insurance so I'm toying with the idea of letting it run its course ....... but £24 is £24 so if I can legitimately cancel my DD for it then I will.
Thanks for your advice

Cancelling the direct debit will be a breach of contract which will not stop the £24 being due and possibly will add to it late payment fees.
To cancel the insurance you must telephone the insurer and notify them it is to be cancelled. If this is your first year with them you normally have to pay a penalty premium for early termination which will be capped to the outstanding payments dueAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
