What photo-editing software do you have?No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you are only doing a small number of squares, this might be the simplest way, without importing software otherr than that included in Windows.
You should have the program Paint in your Accessories folder (Start Button >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Paint).
Call up the photograph. Select the colour you want the grid lines.
Select the Line tool (6th icon down on the left hand side)
Select a thickness of line ( fairly thick, for practicality -third one down probably)
Click on the top edge of the picture where you want the first vertical to start and drag the line down to the bottom edge. Before releasing the cursor, make sure that the line is as unjagged as possible, thereby making sure it is vertical.
Do the same all along the picture for the verticals and then do the same for the horizontals.
There are more professional ways of doing this with more sophisticated software, but this will probably suffice.0 -
If you have Word, Openoffice, etc, you put the picture onto the page, set it to behind text, then put a Table over the picture. You may need to change the Table/Area Fill to transparent or none to show the picture through.
If you do do it in Paint, holding down the Shift key makes the mouse draw only straight horizontal or vertical lines. And unless you want your picture permanently disfigured remember to Save As something differentA kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Thanks Owain, I've managed to do it in paint.0
