tax credits confusion

hi all,
i have looked through the posts and managed to confuse myself even more !
my dh wage was 24000 and mine 10000 in 2010/2011, sadly he lost his job in may 2011 but managed to find one fairly quickly. i did ring the tax credit helpline but got told it wouldnt make any difference.
looking at his most recent wage slip he has has earned 19000 for 2011/2012 and me my usual 10000 but that is not his normal annual wage due to the break in employment last summer. when it comes to renewal do i give them his annual wage for the year ( so what we expect this year ) or his actual wage ? as there will be a difference.
and when do i need to tell them ? and how do i work out what we will get ? we have 3 children no childcare
( sorry for lack of punctation keyboard broken ! )
thanks
lou

On the renewal you give total earnings for the 2011/12 tax year. If your payments didn't change when you told them about the job loss, you'll probably have an underpayment and so get a lump sum on renewal.
After the renewal is processed your payments will be based on the 2011/12 income you declared, and there won't be an overpayment this year provided 2012/13 income isn't more than £10,000 higher.0
