Jessops repair cost?

Hi Everyone,
I sent my Pentax K-r to Jessops to be repaired after two issues arose:
  • The kit lens mount suddenly broke, I took it out of the camera bag and it was broken (no lie.)
  • [A few days later] the shutter suddenly started going off whichever button I pressed and the viewfinder became very fuzzy.
So I took it to be repaired and now, after 5 weeks of waiting I called them to enquire about the repair. They contacted the repairer and told me that it wasn't covered under the manufacturers warranty due to accidental damage and that I would get an invoice tomorrow (Wednesday.) I know the lens breakage wasn't my fault but what about the shutter problem? That was definitely a fault with the manufacturer. I've heard about Jessops giving incredibly high quotes so I'm a bit worried and am considering trying another repairer. Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Things don't suddenly break, the bag must have been knocked, even if you were unaware of it.

As for the shutter problem, there's no knowing what caused that but whatever broke the lens has to be favourite.

I have no idea where else to advise you to send it but he the chances are you'll end up paying and I doubt it'll be cheap.

If the repair is too expensive (and its already been done) then you could claim under house contents.

I always send cameras back to manufacturer as they will let you know a price before commencing anything which isnt covered by warranty.
