what should I do?
I took my vehicle for an MOT before and it ran fine.I left it with them and A few minutes later the garage calls to say that it they started it, it cut out and now wont start again.they reckon its the ECU:mad:
I phoned the AA,as I have breakdown and repairs cover, and they basically said they cant do anything because it broke down in a garage.
Ive left it with the garage overnite but im unsure as what to do now?
should I tow it home and then call the AA again? or simply let the garage rip me off IMO?
help please

are they guessing its the ECU what diagnosis have they done to draw that conclusion?
you can go tow it from there and take to who ever you see fit to do the diagnosis and work. you do not have to have them fix it becuase it broke down there.0 -
ok ive agreed for the garages auto electrician to look at it tomorrow morning for a £40 fee - what would be your advice, let them look at it or have it towed elsehwere?
it seems too much of a coincidence for the ecu to go just as they started the MOT to me:(0 -
Can't think of anything they could do related to the MOT that would cause this failure. In fact they shouldn't even lift the bonnet.
What car are we talking about? I'd be curious as to whether they have another one parked up somewhere, which has miraculously started working again.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I would have thought they would have more of a thorough diagnosis for you. Very rarely cars really do come a cropper either engine wise or other (e.g. brake lines) when they are in for their MOT as it is perhaps the most stressed the components have been all year. While not usually the garages fault (you would want to know that your brake pipes burst on the MOT roller, not when you are praying for an emergency stop on the road) I would have expected them to dig around a little more to prevent them being blamed for a catastrophic fault that was waiting to happen.0

he said he put it on the ramp, turned the engine on and then the lights on and it then cut out.
they think its an electrical fault and possibly the ecu so they are getting an auto electrician out to look at it
it seems like they just lifted the bonnet and the first thing to come out of their mouth was ECU:(0 -

Why won't the AA help you?
Is it because you only have their Rescue (Roadside assistence) cover?
If so, they won't help you at home either.
Why not tow it to a garage you want to repair the vehicle rather than tow it home???"Now to trolling as a concept. .... the AA wont help because it broke down in an actual garage so wouldnt send anyone out to the breakdown and also I wont be able to make a repairs cover claim becuase of that0

...................what?0 -
i had a fiesta break down on the mot a few years ago
a wire had come off the starter and caused an immobilisor issue
most mot type people dont work on cars anymore so are usually clueless when it comes to diagnosing a fault
its a bit unfair to accuse this garage of sabotaging a car and also stealing bits in fact i would go as far to say its downright out of order
an mot station has more to lose than a customer if they lose their licence
to the OP see what the man with the machine says tomorrow0
