Dagenham Motors Smart service

Hello, can anyone help. I have just bought a nearly new car, just under a year old from Dagenham Motors and they are trying to sell me the Smart Service. Is this a good deal or should I avoid it. Your help would be appreciated. :) T

lol, 10 out of 10 for a vague thread......

By the power of the internet, I assume this is a Ford dealership.

    In which case https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3020018

But quite frankly, it seems "ok", but what they're hoping for is to keep you going there for all work. Which means paying WELL over the odds for things like brakes and tyre's.......
You'll go in for a service and they'll tell you it needs new brakes/tyre's at double the going rate per corner, in the hope that you'll just think "might as well get it done while it's here".

I would suggest going to an independent garage or specialist, keep yourself free to shop around when the time comes to replace wearing parts.

The Dagenham Motors Smart Service allows you to spread the cost of servicing over the year.

    Hmmm... how much is it?

Says on the website from £19.99 per month

So thats 240 quid a year at least

Find out how much their annual services cost. They shouldn't be anywhere near that amount (and if they are, use a different Ford dealer!)

So open yourself an interest earning savings account and deposit £19.99 into that each month. Not only will you save yourself money but also benefit from the interest you'll earn whilst saving :)

  • Thanks Strider. I had a look at some older post for this which went back as early as 2009 and I read all of them with interest. A little confused as there was mixed feelings about this, however I have just had a reply which will give me an alternative to buying this deal and that is to put the Money I would be paying to Dagenham into a seperate savings account and then use that money to pay for any service as and when it is due and that leaves me to decide nearer the time whether to go back to Dagenham or to another cheaper dealer. The only concern is will I lose out on the warranty. I am sure there is a law that says we do not have to take it back to the original dealer just to save the Warranty on the car, would you know if this is correct or not. T
  • This is a great Idea I think I might just do that, thanks for this.

You don't need to take it back to the original dealer to maintain the warranty.

You only need to have it maintained to OEM recommendations ... doing this via any Ford dealer would be the easiest solution but even that is not required to maintain cover (although you may be left having to answer some difficult questions if you don't use an authorised dealer)

A Ford stamp in that service book will also help maintain the resale value of the vehicle ... but again any Ford stamp will do, not necessarily from the selling dealer.

Was Dagenham Motors even the original supplying dealership? They, like most dealers, often just buy in used stock from auctions.

Unless they got you in the small print on a finance contract..... A controversial practice, very much on the increase these days.

The Ford Manufacturer's warranty is not affected in any way by any form of finance the vehicle may be purchased under :)
