magnolia petals - to compost or not to compost, that is the question!
Hello - some expert advice needed please! The beautiful magnolia we inherited when we moved here has now shed lots of its petals following last night's weather and we'd like to know how these should be best recycled in the garden - on the compost or to be decomposed in the manner of 'leaf mould'?
My husband's scoured the internet for info and come up with a blank, but I've told him there are some canny gardeners here who will surely have some an opinion, so all advice gratefully received! :j:j

chuck 'em on the flowerbeds and they'll rot away to nothing in a week or so.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Doesn't make much odds - they're not as substantial as leaves and won't rot down as much so I'd say compost heap.Tim0

I'd agree with either of the above posts.... They are fairly quick to rot down if stuck straight on soil; worms will soon pull them down. Compost heap is fine. I have a large one in a lawn, and the mower just collects the petals for me.0
