I think, in this situation, I might try to get a letter - a single letter - sent from a UK solicitor to the executor, reminding her of her obligations as executor and repeating your earlier questions.

I don't know if they cover this kind of situation, but I believe there is a firm of solicitors which specialises in sending letters along the lines of "you owe our client money, pay up or else" for a very reasonable sum. Hopefully someone else will flag up who they are, but they seem to have a good success rate. The executor doesn't need to know that you wouldn't take this further (and frankly, I wouldn't).

Alternatively, the only other thing I can suggest is to contact the Probate office in the UK for advice, but I realise that's difficult if you're not here. Still, cost of a phone call for advice?

Isn't it bad taste to request a copy of the will at the funeral? If the friend got on well with your aunt (which one can assume), then perhaps she was upset and offended with these discussions of the house and the will.

I have never attended a funeral and heard anyone mention a will. Do families really discuss that at a funeral?

at my father's funeral my brother went up to my sister who was talking to one of my dad's friends and interrupted her by saying, without any preamble 'we need to talk about the money'.
