in Credit cards
I purchased a trial product online for £4.95.
ONLY as I hit send, did I see the very small print at the bottom re it being a subscription based product.
Despite holding for nearly an hour on the phone, no one answers and I cant cancel, even though the number they give in their acknowledgement email is the one I'm calling.
I tried emailing them, and they replied that "under their terms and conditions, I have to cancel by phone" - but they don't answer.
I have phoned my Credit card company, and explained, and they have referred it to the disputed transaction dept, but I still feel uneasy about money being taken in the future, as the Credit Card company advised that even if they cancel the card, subscriptions are still debited from the account.
Does anyone know what I can do in this situation to ensure no money is debited in the future.
I wish I had googled the company before purchasing the trial

Where theres a will, theres a way
Don't worry zkfw, Phone your credit card company and tell them that you have lost your credit card. They will immediately cancel it and issue you with a new one which you will receieve in a few days time. End of problem with this company as they won't be able to take further funds from your card.
If you aren't sure about certain companies or if it looks dodgy or if it has anything to do with !!!!!!, then always use a prepaid card such as kalixa which you can load instanly with a debit card. That way, you are in control and can just keep a very small balance on the prepaid card, in which no further transactions can come out until you reload the card to use again. Hope this helps.:DYou may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)0 -
Rubbish.
If you've signed a CPA, reporting your card lost or stolen will still result in charges being made to it; it's linked to the account not the card. Indeed, evenclosed accounts can have CPAs made against them0 -

Yep, this is rubbish and poor advice.
It'll be taken off your new card.
Try https://www.saynoto0870.com for a cheap number.
Keep on hold whilst your working if possible.
Also dispute as well.
Consider reporting them if they won't let you cancel.

The fact is worth mentioning though. If your card is stolen and used to sign up to a CPA, how do you cancel the CPA? Unlike the above you may have no contact details whatsoever or even know the company name.0

If your card is stolen and used to sign up to a CPA.
This is differernt from the OPs situation where the payments have been authorised.0 -

Fair enough. Email them back explaining that no one answers the number when you call it and ask them to phone you on xxx.
It's very important to keep a record of all communication and attempted communication because your credit card company will ask for this if you dispute charges.
Retain copies of all email, both to and from you. Print them out. Don't rely on Hotmail, or whatever, to look after them for you. I find it useful to print out copies including full headers because they looks more impressive.
Keep a record of (attempted) phone calls including date, time and duration (if any).
And print off relevant pages from the website.0 -

I'm unsure, What is a CPA? ( not that it matters )
If the card is cancelled, the credit card company will decline any future transactions using the old cvc, which would include any recurring direct debits. I still think this is the best way forward and believe it will work.
You are very quick to belittle others, but I don't see you giving any advise. You may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)0 -

It's a ways to collect montly payments from credit cards.
It's highly undesireable from a consumers point of view. With Direct Debit (DD) you have rights to cancel with your bank, but with CPA you can only cancel with the retailer who sometimes make it difficult or don't do it.
My advice is to NEVER use it.
Go to another company with better payment methods or don't carry out the purchase. If the card is cancelled, the credit card company will decline any future transactions using the old cvc, which would include any recurring direct debits. It will be transferred to the new account. The card company will be able to link the two. It's not the card companies fault, they are legally obliged to honour the payment you've authorised.
Trust me this has been discussed for many years and there is no easy way round it.
Afain my advice - don't use it. If it's the only payment method available then don't touch the company with a barge pole and go elsewhere.
The direct debit guarantee give you a legal right to cancel with your bank directly and is a much better payment method. Note this doesn't necessarily mean you don't owe the money, you still need to cancel contracts you have a legal obligation to pay and also pay what you owe, but it does put you in control of payment.'m unsure
I am not trying to belittle or be nasty, but poor advice doesn't help anyone.0 -

What are you on about ? It won/t be taken off the new card as the credit card company will decline any further transactions using the old card details. Bear in mind this dodgy company will be using the old cvc.You may question anything I say.
