Very strange!

My Husband claims working tax credits, there is just us two, no kids, he works 35-40 hours per week, @ £7 ph. I get DLA highest rate of both componants and, untill the 11th April when I change over to ESA, I get IB

We usualy recieve £3.98 per week but today got £35, this is a huge jump, we have recieved no communication from WTC at all, I realise the rates go up with the new tax year but I thought they only went up a couple of quid or so, but this is a £31 pound leap.

I was very happy about the amount, but now Im a bit worried in case there has been a mistake and we are going to get in trouble as they might have overpaid us.

I will ring them, but when I have to do that I wait untill late afternoon due to the high volumn of calls and having to wait on the phone for ages for them to answer, I just wondered if anyone here could maybe give me a clue as to why that amount has gone in the bank, oh, could it be a few months worth all at once or something and thats the last lot we will get?

Was your income for 2010-11 year higher than 2011-12 year?

Tax Credits is based on your earnings for the year before so if you earn more one year and less the next then in the following year you get more Tax Credits.

Try to find your last award letter as this has on it what your payments will change to from 6/4 (new financial year)

I thought all that had changed? My son claims tax credits but they are based on current earnings and he has to phone and tell the tax office every time his or his partners earnings or hours change so they can adjust their payments.

Yes they tell you to tell them straight away so they can adjust things but that's only set off against a certain amount of any financial change anyway ie a big one.

The actual awards are still based on the year befores earnings.

I just phoned them about this and was told due to the recent changes we are entitled to £35 for the whole year! if they had given it to us weekly well there would have been pence put in the bank each week so gave us the whole years worth at once, so thats it.

We are lucky in the respect that we were only getting £3.93 a week anyway so wont really miss that much, unlike some who have lost £80-90 or more a week.
