OP, the only way you would be able to keep your car if you are no longer getting HRM would be to buy the car at the end of the lease period. You would not be allowed to carry on paying the lease out of your own money.

Chrissiew, there are only 2 levels of mobility DLA, not 3 :)

My nephew-in-law has cerebral palsy and has great difficulty walking, he really couldn't do public transport. He gets DLA and has a motability car and works full time doing an office job.

Even if you've got a slight improvement to your mobility you may still qualify for DLA but inform them of any changes. If you do find a job you would need to inform DWP because you would no longer be entitled to IB or ESA if you're working.

So are you saying you are just using your DLA to top up your income?

To get DLA you must be disabled in some way, The way you are saying it is that if I start work I will show I am not as disabled as I claim and just using the money to top up my IB!

You can work with both IB and ESA under certain circumstances. With ESA providing you work less than 16 hours you can keep up to about £95 without it affecting benefits under certain conditions.

With IB there are different rules but in some cases you can work and still get some IB.
How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.

No - low, middle and high for care but just low and high for mobility.

Does anyone know if a motability car can be used as a private hire taxi. My husband is applying for DLA as he has some health issues although he works as a taxi driver and really needs a new car. If he was to get the DLA could he use a motability car as a taxi.

    Misuse of the Car Scheme

Misuse of the Motability Scheme is something we take very seriously. We rely on the general public, customers, police, Department for Work and Pensions, and others to help us put a stop to it. Every report of misuse we receive is carefully assessed and, if proven, acted upon. Typical examples of misuse include:
    • Using the car for crime
    • Denying its use to the disabled person
    • Using the car as a taxi or delivery vehicle
    • Driving uninsured or whilst banned
    • Sub-leasing or selling the car
    • Allowing the car to become unroadworthy.
Taken from the motability web site
