Santander Online Backing

Maybe I am going crazy but my online accounts don't seem to state the interest rates on the accounts. And the neither my ISA nor my Savings account tell me which type they are - i.e. Esaver Issue X

How can I find this information out online? Thanks!

This might seem rather obvious, but how about looking at the the paperwork they sent you on opening and then try looking at the Santander website under Interest Rates !

Just a note on the above:

    1) not everyone keeps paperwork.
"but they should". Ah yes, but not everyone does.
"that's their own fault then". Ah yes, but that doesn't help OP.

    2) rates on the website aren't always the rate that get paid.
Rates can change & they get updated on the site. The rate you're currently being paid can differ. I've had this with a few accounts where i open an account at a said rate. The rate then changes for newcomers, but i still get the rate i was when i opened the account - yet you can't view it on their site.

I think it would be entirely feasible for the banks to add the interest rate to the transaction field along with the interest paid.

I agree they should show the interest. Might have to resort to telephone banking - there are 0800 alternatives to the 0845 number.

No, you're not going crazy. Santander should provide this information online, but they don't. I asked in branch for confirmation of product name and interest rate; the bank employee displayed it on her screen and showed me - so why can this info not be presented on my online banking screen?

If Santander really want to improve their reputation for customer service, they could start by presenting this information online.

Its not just Santander. I have never used an online banking site (and i have used quite a few) which gives up to date interest rates for accounts which i hold with them. It is not in the banks interest to show you what a poor rate of return you are currently getting on your money :)

They should be forced to display it IMHO. An MSE campaign perhaps?

Halifax and Lloyds do show the current rates. (Though you have to click on an account-info button to reveal it - would take up less screen to just show the rate, than to put in the extra layer to hide it.)

Some have a link to the generic page showing rates, but then you have to remember what the account is, when you opened it, etc. Not much help.

ISTR someone proposing that all statements should include the current interest rate. Though if a savings account only gives one statement a year, not really a lot of help.
