New Citroen C1 for £6995 - Should I take the plunge

Looking for a long term citycar . Was tempted by the new VW UP , but now drawn to the new promotion for the C1 @ £6995. Will have to borrow the full amount, so the £1k saved will have a big impact on repayments. Can anyone see a downside to this deal ?

For £800 more you could get an Aygo 3 door and have a 5 year warranty. Servicing is cheaper and residuals better.0

Thanks but new Aygo is being quoted as £8535.... http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyota/bv/frame_start.jsp?id=CC2-AYGO-landing0 -
Drivethedeal for a discounted price. I've noticed Toyota have started discounting theough DTD again, the Up is a welcome newcomer if this is te reason why.
Only thing which put me off the Up and Skoda version is VAG insisting on using an engine with a cambelt. This adds significant service costs if you intend keeping the car for many years.0 -
what about a picanto?
hear me out on this one......
7 year warranty as standard, fully transferable, buy a 2-3 year old one, someone else takes the depriciation hit and you get the majority of the warranty
downside is its not a very male car (get some nice alloys on it and buy a black one
) Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
This is the money SAVING website. You'll loose at least £2000 of that as soon as you've signed on the dotted line. Do yourself a favour and buy something a year old or which has been pre-registered by the dealer.0

The depreciation when you drive it off the forecourt is SHOCKING and have learnt that myself! Like people say above... buy a car that's a few months old0

Thanks for the heads up on depreciation , however this is an aquisition that'll be with us for at least 10 years. I can't see how depreciation will be a big issue. Most budget cars are pretty much worthless after 10 yrs anyway. Plus shopping for a car that's a few months old is pretty much needle in haystack territory. We've seen '60 plate C1's on forecourts for £6.2k so this new promo seems worth investigating. Kia Picanto is on the radar too , but 7 year warranty - still won't cover wear & tear items like exhausts, brakes etc.The depreciation when you drive it off the forecourt is SHOCKING and have learnt that myself! 60 plate may have a screen price of £6.2K but doesn't mean to say that is what you would pay. it is also possible it may have a higher specification than the brand new vehicle -possibly not in this category.
As a PP says the Toyota has the better reputation - not sure if this makes much difference if they are falling off the same production line though unless they change the individual components or QC checks for each production run."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop...
