Curious as to chances for DVLA refund...

I bought a second-hand car in September last year and noticed when I was looking at it that the disc that was in it was £210 (or £215, can't remember offhand). On parkers and DVLA it should be £105. Didn't really think much of it tbh, thought maybe they'd made an error or something.
I had a look at all the MOT history and that and noticed that there had been a reg plate change a few years back and that the car was originally Navy (or some sort of Armed Forces by the looks of the addresses). Spoke to DVLA and asked them about the tax disc price and the lady said that when the car was originally registered in Sept 2002 the carbon emissions weren't recorded. So the car was just put in as the 'over' amount based on engine size instead of on the emissions.
She said I could write and request a change to what band it's in but it's up to the discretion of whoever opens the post.
So, I've written in with a lovely letter, copy of the page from the manual showing emissions and asking for a change in band and also a refund for the difference on the disc I bought (it was due in November so I had to buy it anyway).
What do we think the chances of anything are? I'm thinking no to both requests (simply because then anything better is a bonus!).

If they accept the change of band then there's nothing to stop you cashing in the existing disk and buying a new one at the reduced rate. You'd lose out on the bit from Nov till now but would still end up cheaper for the year.

You would only get the cash for the unused portion. Until they make the decision, the current VED rate is the correct one.

Thanks guys. Had a letter arrive this morning saying I need to provide them a ECOC (certificate of conformity) which I need to get from Vauxhall - but the lovely chap there told me it was £96 :( £95 is the difference in cost, so it's worth it if I keep the car for more than another tax disc I suppose.
Hadn't thought about cashing in the old disc and getting a new one - thanks for pointing that out!

i think you are lucky they are accepting the conformity certificate because the car you have is probably different to normal imports for the uk and they might have made you go for a sva seeing as your car seems to be in the 10 year old bracket?
