Laptop screen brightness problem?

Just got my lappy back from repair, as wouldn't load Windows properly. Repair chap has done a clean up, found it was a conflict between a corrupt Windows file and my virus checker stopping it loading. Everything running fine, except the screen has been set to 100% brightness and I cannot find how to dim it! Its an Acer, and previously had Acer's own energey management program - Empowering Technology, which I could click on to change brightness. Somehow this file has gone missing, and I cannot find any other way to change the brightness through control panel or display settings.

Any advice please? Think I'm going to have to wear sunglasses if I cannot change the setting!

Can't say for sure without knowing the exact Acer model number, but their power management utility is probably available as a download from their support website.

It may be bundled in with a whole load of other drivers and utilities - some manufacturers are better than others at describing their downloads.

Isn't there a key on the keyboard for changing the brightness the same as pretty much every single other laptop on the market?

On my Acer, clicking the battery icon in the task bar brings up the power plan option which have the brightness settings contained there?

No, on Acers its "hold the Fn key" and tap the left or right arrows to brighten/darken - tried this, doesn't work.

There is also a key specifically for the "Empowering Tech" function, but is says it cannot find the file :(

flashg67 - clicking on battery icon used to allow this, but no more

fwor - Thanks, off to check for Acer downloads! ;)

more often than not it's Fn + one of the F-keys for brighter and and the one next to it for dimmer...check the symbols on your F-keys...
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
