Want to sell up as too big home

When i married my husband 3 years ago, i moved into his 3 storey house, which he still has 20 years left to run on. He is now 50 years of age, which means he has to work now into his 70's. I can't work through to being disabled. I have trouble climbing the stairs, to our bedroom. Nearly 2 years ago, i found out that he hadnt being paying the mortgage, and was due in court. As soon i found out was in 2 mind to leave him, for not telling me, but stayed with him. We managed to agree to pay the arrears, alittle at a time and the monthly mortgage, which we are doing. But i want and need to move. Would we be able to buy, or would we have to rent property because of his past arrears.

Questions that might help people to advise you are as follows.
Are there still arrears owing on the mortgage? How much is left to pay on the mortgage & what approx value do you think your current house is?

If there are still arrears on the mortgage it's very unlikely your husband would be granted another mortgage, unfortunately.

As you are disabled, it might be worth your while trying to get your name on the waiting list of your local council for a more suitable property. You might be in for a long wait, but it would take the pressure off of your husband having to continue to work until he is in his 70's & you would be assured of quite a reasonable rent, plus help with the rent if on a low income.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
