Your best bet is to visit openoffice.org and download the free Open Office suite.
It lacks only the most advanced features of Microsoft Office, and if you've lasted this long without MS Office then you won't miss them. Open Office allows you to save files as .doc, .xls, etc so it is totally compatible with MS Office files.
Or, if you have an academic user in the household (i.e. pupil, teacher or student) then get the Academic Edition of MS Office, which is about £70 at the moment. Allows you to put it on 3 computers in the household.0 -
The Home User Program was about a couple of years ago. Not sure now but worth a look (you will need some info from your IT guys)Microsoft Offer ‐, you are eligible to participate in the Home User Program (HUP). This
program enables you to get a licensed copy of Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office XP
at a cost of approximately £20. This represents a saving of approximately £400 on high
street prices. Please visit https://hup.microsoft.com/

We got this package on a Dell PC about a year ago, great saving!!
Another alternative: you can try using one of the free packages available from "Google" or "Open Office", I believe you can import Word Docs to such programs.0 -
NHS program may be cheap but OpenOffice is free! It's well worth a look as it does pretty much everything MS Office does. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
A few of the computer mags have reviewed Tesco Complete Office over the last few months and it seems to come out reasonably well.
Mind you, it is £20 and whether it's any better than the free OpenOffice is another matter.Dave. :wave:0 -
OO is free, true, but it depends how many of the features you need - also it is more comparible to Office 2003.
Office 2007 is a another thing altogether! It is quite different to previous versions - does take a bit of getting used to, but makes features a lot more accesible. If you don't know much about it try a demo here
You can get the Home and Student Edition of 2007 for around £95 I think. This is not a signature...0 -
If it's only Word you want, not the rest of Office, you can get an OEM version of Works Suite 2006 for about £45 which includes Word 2002. But that's only if it has to be Word for some reason, rather than any half decent word processor.0

My wife works for the NHS and 2 yrs ago we got ms Office for about £18 using the Home User Program. It has to be done through your hospitals IT department.
Unfortunately many of them are too lazy to get involved as it involves a slight amount of work on their part. http://www.ganfyd.org/index.php?title=Microsoft_home_user_programI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0
