Are there benefits available for Apprentices?
Comments
-
As mentioned by the other poster, how will having benefits help him stand on his own two feet?
Regarding the benefits, as he lives at home it is expected that he will be supported to some extent e.g. Unable to get housing benefit etc.
Is he able to car share with anyone to reduce travel costs?
How long will he have to live on £40 a week e.g. When does his apprenticeship finish? It may just be a case of him having to have no social life until it is completed.
Thanks for your feedback. No, I don't want him to live on benefits either, this is why he is working very hard, doing long hours for his apprenticeship. His apprenticeship is not government funded in any way, and neither he or any of my family take any benefits at all. I know that there are all sorts of grants and 'student loans' available for young people and I was mearly asking if anyone knew of any that may be available to an apprentice. I do resent the inference from the other poster that I am some kind of benefits scrounger...I was just making an enquiry, and could do without replies like his.0 -

Yes, your son is very lucky. He has a formal apprenticeship, and hopefully a future as a result. Yes it is hard as a young worker making your own way. Guess what - it always was. Does your (adult) offspring know that you are postimg on their behalf here, or that you consider that it is someone elses job to support them as they start out in life?
Of course it's my situation, he is my son!! Question is, what's it got to do with you? Or is this just another over-opinionated sticky beak?
I asked a perfectly simple question, why do you feel that you have to reply when you have nothing constructive so say? Don't you dare patronise me or mine!!0 -

It isn't your situation. What your son earns and how he makes ends meet is his situation. You are airing his business here - unless you think the world should subsidise you for having a son? You attack and patronise any opinion that happens to disagree with you own opinion that someone else should pay the bills for your son. Whare on earth did this opinion in the world come from that you were owed a living for having children? I had to make my own start in life, supported by my parents who didn't expect someone else to pay for it. I supported my own chiidren in their start in life. Who told you that somoene else would pay for your children?
And what it has got to do with me is that you posted your sons business on a public website.. so if you don't like the opiniuons you get, get off the website.0 -

What is your problem? You should seriously think about taking up yoga or something, all this anger is not good for you.....
p.s...........it's only your opinion that I don't like (because I never asked for it)........0 -
everyone goes through some hardship at the start mate.
just get him to plough through it for another month or two and his allowance should go up.
important lesson there in negotiation. work hard, be dilligent and eager to learn, try and get close to the FT workers as quick as possible and he can negotite better renumeration.
what work is he doing?0 -

Really? Only mine? So in post #9 it wasn't you who told dsevenety to "butt out" and keep their opinions to themselves? Strangely it looked very much like you, and was posted under your user name. So you were the one who started the whole "nobody is entitled to post on my thread if I don't like their opinions" fiasco. "Constructive" doesn't mean the same thing as "agrees with me". You have obviously confused the two things, and it might have been helpful if you had made it clearer in your first post that you only wanted answers which told you what you wanted to hear.
And I am going to explain to you again. This is a public website. You posted on here asking for opinions. You got them.0 -
Seriously, if you can't say anything constructive then I suggest you butt out and keep your opinions to yourself. You know nothing of my situation, so who are you to judge!!!
Very touchy? Chillax man.....
Just to re-iterate, there are no benefits for your son, you will have to help him where he needs it, or get a bar job (that will make him more independant) not the tax payer.
D70How about no longer being masochistic?
How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?0 -
Not sure if he has already looked into it and if it would be of interest, but...

Not an apprentice myself, so not looked too deep into it, but from what I heard when it was recently introduced it might help with certain discounts, etc.??"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."
