Can anyone remember what these shoes were called?

Bear with me if my description leaves a lot to be desired. 
Around 25 years ago (ish - probably a big ish) there were flat, soft, laced, leather shoes on the go that were a pale yellowish colour and had a 'cornish pasty' type edge round part of the shoe. It didn't go all the way round, if you imagine a flat left shoe with the letter 'r' on top...that was the bit that had this edging.
They were 'the' thing at one time, especially if you were into soul music.
Any ideas?

I think they were Clark's Polyvelts. Very popular with Northern Soul fans, and they also came in black and later on a girl's cross bar version. Also popular wth geography teachers IIRC!0

I know the sort you mean. Kickers made some similar ones, but I don't know their names. They were worn by a lot of indie kids too, before it progressed to grunge and everyone wore army boots.0
