Hi,

Just wanted to know if anyone knows how long it takes for late payment to appear on credit file? Its a Santander store card for about £13.

Many thanks for your help

It depends on when they do there uploads, but I would say within 2 months
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I am about to complete on a house and didnt want the mortgage company to do another check before releasing the money and find a late payment although it is a very small amount!!

When did the payment become due, and when did you pay?

Most companies upload once a month - towards the beginning, but some do it around the 10th of the month

Also depends on the creditor - I am not sure about Santander, but some creditors give a grace period - 4 or 5 days after the due date - if the payment is recieved during that time, it may not show up.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

"4 or 5 days" being (generally) the period between the payment due date and the next statement date on a 56 days interest free card.

Of course this only applies to those lenders who report account status as at statement date...Halifax/BOS is one such lender I believe.

The arrears value won't be shown on your credit file...merely the fact it was late (a '1' would indicate payments are up to one month in arrears).

thank you all. The fact that I could have paid it in full few days ago and forgot however the late payment wouldn't bother me too much if it wasnt for the mortgage funds release in the next 7 days.

So if the mortgage company dont check credit file before releasing the funds then even if it appeared on the file it wouldn't bother me too much as I dont have any other late payments in the last 12 months.

However u always hear horror stories with companies withdrawing the mortgage offer only hours before completion hence the worry!!

Lets hope santander are lenient on this one off late payment.

Really? Late payments can affect all kinds of finance applications, not just mortgages.

Have you considered setting up a direct debit, perhaps for just the minimum amount, in order to protect your credit rating/history going forward?
