Who do you use to post bulky items abroad?

Any help with this would be appreciated as just looking someone up on the internet doesn't indicate if their service is good.
I have a high value item that's quite heavy (~9kg) and moderately fragile (CD player), that potential buyers from Hong Kong and South Korea have asked about postage costs. Main concerns are having it get there safely, but if needed that it's properly insured and that receipt of delivery is produced. I think this is going to be expensive unfortunately, but it's an expensive and rare CD player (one of the first ever made in 1983 and still working perfectly) so I believe some people may be willing to pay a fair bit for delivery. I just want to be sure it stands the best chance of getting there safely and that I'm insured if it gets damaged or doesn't turn up.

Anyone?
Things are looking a little more urgent now. Despite emailing to tell the potential foreign buyers that I can't promise it's possible to send it abroad yet, but I will be telephoning couriers for prices tomorrow and will let them know more then, they have started bidding!
Meanwhile, online calculators for courier companies are suggesting prices like £277 to send it to Hong Kong and all kinds of warnings about how customs will X-ray the package and reject it if it's too dense - and this thing I swear has ballast in it weighs so much. Besides, what do X-rays do to CD players?!0 -
I don't think I've seen any of the courier gurus online this weekend, but you could try getting a few details of couriers from the sticky postage thread, I think someone updated that recently.
I don't do couriers so can offer no advice at all, sorry.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. parcel2go.com go through quidco or topcashback for £4 cashback, I sent 60 Wii games (probably 15kg) to Germany for about £45, insurance is the costly part I think I insured it for about £500. Parcel2go was the cheapest I could find, the actual parcel was sent through DHL and signed for the other end. Check terms and conditions on any courier as I sent a microwave by DHL within the UK it arrived with a massive dent in it (not working) and microwaves were excluded from the insurance, so I had to write it off.
I would imagine shipping outside of Europe is going to be a big step up from within Europe.Starting comping middle of October 2011: Wins so far: 2 x concert tickets, a year's supply of Tetley Tea / Tetley mug, F+F 5 shirt with satchel bag:j0 -
Try G Wizz couriers .. link below

I've used them on a number of occasions and have only ever had good service, both for UK and international deliveries0 -
Try posting the dimensions and destination on here, it's by far the easiest way to get a good value quote0

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I have now found prices for £57 to send with suitable insurance to either Hong Kong or South Korea, which considering it's a large package weighing 10 kg with a reasonable amount of insurance needed, is I feel very reasonable.0
