Bus lane fine

Got a bus lane fine, which I am trying to appeal (on the basis of made a mistake and couldn't very well reverse onto a main road). They sent the fine beginning of January. I have since sent two letters, one recorded delivery (showing on RM website as unproven delivery), asking for a simple response and perhaps letting me off with the initial £50, rather than £100 if I have no case.
They are not responding. What happens next and when can I expect it? I don't want to go to jail :o

You could pay the fine. You were caught in a bus lane. They are clearly marked, and also open to road users who can be easily injured if you don't do a full observation before moving into them such as motorcyclists.

Once the fine has increased to £100 they normally instruct a collections agency.

You will be notified if collection agents are called in and there is no way this would happen at this stage!

Also as you are in correspondence with them and have evidence of a letter being sent it would unlawful for a collection agent to be involved at this stage.

Parking and Bus lane appeals can take time to process due the the large amounts being received by the authorities.

However if the offence was clearly committed on camera and you have no justified reason, unfortunately a mistake is rarely good enough, it is unlikely the appeal will be upheld. Some authorities do however allow the reduced rate to be paid if the appeal was submitted within the 14 day early payment period.

I can't see how "mistake" would be an acceptable reason for appeal.
I would pay the £50 and never do it again.
