TV cooking programmes - what do you watch?

Options
I am currently watching the hairy bikers bakeation and the little paris kitchen (both on bbc2 and iplayer) and have made 1 recipe from the hairy bikers bakeation and nothing so far from the little paris kitchen, though need to buy some greaseproof paper to make a piping bag so I can try to make the choux buns.

Just wondered what you all are watching and what have you made from these programmes. I often watch and have good intentions but usually don't get round to making things no matter how easy they seem to be. Reasons are laziness at times, don't have the ingredients, husband won't eat the food or not the food for me.

It can be quite useful to pick up ideas, techniques and tips, but I prefer to be more creative in my own kitchen. Nigella and Nigel Slater do inspire me to use different flavour combinations, and I love watching The Barefoot Contessa, just to see how many sticks of butter she is using :D.

  • I quite like the hairy bikers programme for the bits about travel as much as the recipes. Their banter is a bit wooden at times but on the whole they make a watchable prog.

I like Hugh Fearnley's style of cooking so i try to catch him when he's on. Jamie Oliver cooks nice stuff and it's easy to replicate IF you've got the budget. When he starts wafting armfuls of herbs i get cross.....we don't all have two acres of market garden outside the back door. In these straitened times you'd think he'd realise how most folk struggle.

Not too many nowadays, unless "Come Dine with me" counts. :D

I occasionally watch the "Hairy Bikers", or anything with Hugh FW in, as they are all quite interesting.

I like Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and anything that isn't too poncy.

Although having said that, I do like drooling over Man Vs Food and trying to make healthy attempts at the food on that!

Thats true. I often use dried herbs or the few I have in my garden. I never buy fresh herbs as they often get wasted. I liked the series economy gastronomy shame they only had 1 series

I did enjoy the last Lorraine Pascal series, didn't end up making anything from it though! Nigel Slater does good simple meals and I do like to watch CDWM for inspiration (or a nosey at peoples houses...)

I love all cookery programmes, but rarely make anything from them. I did make Nigella's mexican lasagne once (it was yum!) but TBH I watch them for escapism/the lovely places they go to/the personalities (HFW and Hairy Bikers especially!)/inspiration etc. I'm veggie so quite often I can't eat most dishes anyway.

  • I too am watching the Hairy Bikers Bakeation and have made the focaccia bread from it so far as I had the cook book for mother's day. I also watch Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and regularly make his celeriac soup.

I quite like her, but don't believe she's a real foodie - she's far too much of a skinny to be convincing. Nigella and Ina on the other hand look like they eat their own food.

I like Giada De Laurentis because she's got a lovely personality...but again don't believe for a minute that she eats much, she's so tiny. I think Rachel Allen's also great on TV, but her food is just dire.
