I have been checking a few car sites recently. There seems to be a big difference in prices of cars advertised.
In descending order of prices it seem to be as follows:
Autotrader NI
UTVdrive
Gumtree
Also number of cars being sold seems to go from Autotrader being the fewest to Gumtree being the most.
Has anybody else found that?0 -
I know this is an old topic really, but I just wanted to share my recent experience in case it helps anyone. I advertised a 4 year old mini cooper for 2 weeks this month in autotrader, utvdrive, usedcarsni, gumtree, ebay and donedeal
The car was priced very fairly - 8k - (I used the free whatcar guide) and I thought it was quite a desirable car although it had high mileage 80k+ which may have put many people off.
on autotrader (which was the most expensive at £32) the car got 103 views
on ebay (£15) it had 114 views and 4 "watchers"
on gumtree (free) it had 120 views
on utv drive (free) the page had 127 views
on usedcarsni (free) it had 179 views
donedeal.ie was £4 but I don't know how many views the ad had
I received 2 calls and one email from people who had seen the car on gumtree and 1 call from someone who had seen it on donedeal. Nothing from any of the other sites.
The car sold in 10 days through the donedeal ad and has gone to Ireland.
So, my advice would be, price the car appropriately (in my subsequent search for a new car i have noticed that a lot of people have very unrealistic expectations of what their cars are worth - especially owners of german cars) and try the free/cheap sites first. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of benefit in paying through the nose for autotrader. I hope this helps
PS if you are advertising on autotrader, there is 20% back on quidco!0 -
Put one on utvdrive this afternoon at 2pm and it sold at 6.15pm, plenty of calls as wellWell I Love Tv And I Love T. Rex, I Can See Through Your Skirt I've Got X-Ray Spex0

I have also noticed this. Many of the prices are much above those published in the guide books/sites such as Parkers.0
