changing mobility car early

Hi Ive had a mobility car now for just coming up to a year. we have just had our 4th child and find the ford s-max a little small. So could do with getting the ford galaxy. Does anyone know the rules for doing this is it allowed or do you have to finish of the 3 years before changing cars. Many thanks

you are aware that the Galaxy, S-Max and Mondeo are built on the same platform? the only thing a Galaxy will give you is a higher roofline above the back two seats.

It's definitely possible - my son's mother in law is changing hers at the moment after having it less than a year, as she feels it's too small for her.

You should be able to change. If you are not too bothered about the make, take a look at the Zafira's - they are quite good for families.

Zafira is smaller than S-max or galaxy unless you go for the zafira tourer.

The galaxy has a higher roofline which means more headroom for adults in the rearmost seats. Otherwise it is the same inside.

What model will you go for?

As a matter of interest is the look of the car important? Have you considered the Nissan NV200 7 seater? It is cheaper.

It just that in the s-max the re most seats are on the floor there is no drop for your legs I was hoping that the galaxy seats where higher. Ive got to go and view one this week. The mobility people were OK with it but said there is normally a fee for changing cars early but they will waver it this time and to make sure the car we get next lasts the 3 years. IE no more kids. are car at the moment is s-max titanium x model. so would be looking at getting the galaxy titanium x.
  • I would remind the poster that if the DLA recipient is over 16 and under 65, they will be re-assessed under PIP shortly (starting within the next 24 months).

From the figures, hopes and ambitions, it is likely that somewhere between 30 - 50% of Motability cars will be going back! I could be wrong, but whatever the figure turns out to be, it will affect a lot of people.

That still give her 2 years or so with the mobility car and doesnt take away the fact she has got the wrong one.

Also its scaremongering all this talk about PIP, yes its coming in and people are going to be assessed but some make out as if everyone will have to hand their cars back, and NO ONE really knows what will happen untill the day comes.
not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!
  • Hi I have changed my car after 8 months as it was unsuitable for my needs and motability where great and sorted it out it out in days and had me at the dealer of choce within the week. Select the car, make sure you know the money fits your budget etc and they will even balance out your deposits if you pay a lower or higher deposit. Call them they are great to deal with.
