Consumer Unit Replacement Cost

We currently have an old-style fuse box with 4 fuses. The shower one blew in dramatic fashion meaning that we now have to replace the fuse box before we can get power to it again.
It would be nice to have a guide price before we get quotes (might be able to get mates rates). We are thinking about going with a 6 way one or future-proofing. Any rough ideas as to how much this is likely to cost us?
And before you say, we know we have to sort out what caused it and we are pretty certain it was down to brittle insulation on the wiring for the switch, and we will make sure of this.
Thank you.

What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Bear in mind that when somone posts what they paid, for example, the cost will vary greatly according to location. I cannot believe how little Northerners pay for electrics etc.I think you do need to get three quotes. I had my switchboard replaced as part of rewiring the kitchen, and I still choke when I see the price. (I won't say how much, as it was part of building work, so I paid electricians price, plus builders markup.)Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Like others say it varies depending on where you live but as a very rough guide, expect to pay between £3-500. Round my neck of the woods, it seems the going rate is £350-£450.0

You may find that some of the fuses double up for more than 1 circuit (which isn't really allowed), so a six way board might not be enough. get your electrician to take a look and supply the new consumer unit0

We got ours changed when we moved into this house almost 4 years ago. It cost us £160 - and then when my son moved into his house a couple of years ago he got his one replaced too and it was about £170-£180.0
