Do car insurance companies charge a fee if I pay with my CC?

Hi

I'm thinking of buying my car insurance with my credit card and taking advantage of the 0%. Just wondered do the companies charge you for paying using a credit card?

I'm still comparing quotes so don't know who I'm going to go with yet. Just wondered had anyone had experience of being charged?

Sometimes there's a £2 fee, but that's all I've experienced, I did this last year with Direct line and worked out well for me, unfortunately couldn't take advantage this year.

I think Admiral charge £5.95 for using a cc. I wouldn't imagine any companies charging much more than that.

Not from my experience. We have been with Admiral for the last 2 years, paid in full on cc, no charge to do so.

That's good to know, coincidently, Admiral are coming out heapest so it's likely I will buy off them!
  • The Admiral group now charge, I think it's £4.95. I recently renewed my insurance with Diamond and this is the first year they've added a CC surcharge. I was slightly peeved.

If you decide to buy from Admiral, check your policy very carefully. I almost bought from them but then found it wasn't a like-for-like quote. Ended up buying from Esure which was £20 more, but offered more (excesses were less, etc), and didn't charge for CC payment so I got £3 cashback as well.

As you have been given different experiences by users I think you would be better off asking the co directly, whoever you decide to go with :)

Admiral wanted to charge me £5.50 but instead paid by debit card and for that no charge. Funny reminds me of that song from the 1970's.

Admiral tried to charge last time I renewed but after a discussion with a manager the charge was dropped.
