Cat wee on carpet Help!!

I could cry :(

Just moved into our new house, my husband let the cat in and she has pee'd somewhere in one of our spare bedrooms.

I have removed all furniture, tried bicarb, vinegar, neutrodol powder. We can see no stain on the carpet but the smell is awful. Today we had the carpet professionally cleaned and the smell is just as bad. We've lifted the carpet and there is no staining on the underlay, I have been on my hands and knees doing the sniff test all over and can't locate the source
I've just sprayed the whole room again with a mix of vinegar as a last ditch attempt.

Can anyone recommend anything else we could do before we have to get a new carpet?

    Could it be the walls/cutains/wardrobe?

Is there any MDF/chipboard furniture in there, that is terrible for holding the cat pee smell!

One of ours started using the back of the dining room for this sort of thing. In the end we had to get rid of the carpet and put laminate down. Also put a litter tray in there - they just started peeing on the hall doormat instead!
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • We've removed all the furniture out to try and eliminate it, think its going to be a new carpet :( Really can't afford it at the moment

Do you need to use the room for your children? If not, it can go without carpet for as long as you need it to. Don't just re-carpet as the cat may like that spot and do it again. If you have friends/family that occasionally use it, paint the floorboards and put a cheap rug down.

Perhaps they've done it and its gone right through into the gaps between the floor boards. Sometimes it helps to remove the carpet and leave the floor boards to air with some bicarb sprinkled.

(Had two cats that were like this, its the fabric/nylon feel of the carpet that they liked to shred with their claws and then pee on).

  • Try sprinkling the room with a dilute lemon juice solution.

Also leave the window open to air the room.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
  • Just get some bottles of febreze and spray em around the house.

Dont panic. lol, thatll do the trick.

I would expect a professional carpet cleaner to be able to remove the smell. (I am a professional carpet cleaner!)

To detect any areas of remaining urine use a uv light. It could be that the liquid has soaked through to the underlay and therefore still resides there, if so carpet needs lifting, an area of underlay needs replacing - check out floorboards, then a re-clean of the carpet area should remove it.

The acidity in dog/cat pee can damage (particuarly wool) carpets and leave a visible mark, but as I say it should be possible to remove the aroma.

There are two organisations I belong to,
    NCCA (national Carpet cleaning association)
TACCA (the approved carpet cleaners association)

Both have websites that will enable you to locate the nearest members using your postcode.
