Hi Guys,
Just after tips on buying a used car. I have no clue! I don't intend to buy private as it's too risky. I have seen a car in JCT 600 but do I still need to pay for a HPI check.

Thanks

    What is JCT600?

I like to think that I know a thing or two about cars, well I did in my youth when cars were simpler, but have to admit that I have been ripped off by traders and private sellers. However, I have had some good deals in my time.

On balance I would say that if you buy privately it could be better to look at the seller’s house rather than the car. If it’s a nice, well maintained house in a nice area there is a good chance that you will be buying a well maintained car at a very reasonable price. If the house is a slum what will you expect of the car?

If you buy from a trader you may need to ask yourself how good the trader’s reputation is.

The last car that I bought was from a local trader, which, as a family business, had been trading for more than 30 years. Their reputation was that their prices were quite high but their cars were good.

That was actually in 2001 when I bought a 1998 Mondeo for £4,845. That was probably a bit over the top pricewise but, today, 11 years later, it is my son’s car and still going strong

Nowadays my wife is on Motability and gets a brand new car every 3 years. From choice she gets them from Evans Halshaw and I have to say their service is wonderful but, if the situation ever arises that I need to buy a car for myself I would most definitely go to the local dealer with a good reputation

    JCT600 is a dealer/ship in bradford.

Depends if yoy want to know the cars history. And dont bother with cheap text checks. HPI, RAC, AA etc.

    Its dearer but worth it.

What car is it that you are looking to buy? Different models have different things to look for.

lesalanos: I'm looking at a Toyota Yaris, 2 years of age with 13000 miles on it's gone from £7195 to £6999. I'm scared it's gonna be sold before I get there!

I'm definitely avoiding private sellers, you just never know! I mean with these dealers, how much of a check do they do before they accept car in?

well 7195 is a silly figure isnt it
6999 people think 6000 so its a psychological battle of wits
i bet you looked online in autotrader and put 7000 as your top figure so jct 600 could have lost your sale
