Mortgage + Current Account - Possibly an obvious answer!

Hi,

I have a question which might seem obvious and to be honest I think I know the answer but would like confirmation. I have held a Santander current account since Summer 2010 and got a mortgage in December 2012 with a rate specifically for Santander current account holders. Is it possible to switch my current account to a better one (i.e. higher rate) elsewhere or will it affect my mortgage?

Without reading your specific mortgage T&Cs it's nigh on impossible for anyone here to answer your question...or confirm what you already think you know.

That said, maybe it's only a condition of your mortgage rate that you 'hold' a current account with them, not use it as your 'main account'? If that's the case, what's stopping you moving your banking elsewhere and crediting your Santander current account with the monthly mortgage payment each month ready for the DD (or direct transfer) collection?
