No signal on Freeview

I bought a freeview box second hand. I have got a great reception in my living room as this is hooked up to an outside aerial. I bought a second hand freeview box and when I turn it on in the same room - it says BBC Wales and then no signal. This is not a problem with connection as the wires work with all the other freeview boxes I have had.

oops I live in northern Ireland - does this affect it?

Should I ask for my money back or is this problem fixable?

Any replies will be appreciated.

Lisa

Find the setup menu and try "First time installation" or "rescan for channels" option.

No need to feel stupid; it's only easy if you know the answers. That's what this forum is all about.

Don't feel stupid, your question subtely hid a mass of sub-questions about frequencies, MUXes, polarisation, propagation and a good deal of fundemental physics too. Thankfully the answer also hid the same :D

If you move a freeview box from one viewing area to another it's likely to need to receive the stations on different frequencies from these naughty things called MUXes. The box is too stuipid to realise it's been moved and re-scan for itself.
