Tax question - 1T tax code

Hello
I have just received a letter from HMRC informing me that I will have a 1T tax code for the new tax year because my income is estimated to be above £116,210. I am baffled by this as my annual income has never been more than (or indeed close to) half of this, and there is no reason to think that it should be for the tax year that has just started.
I am sorry to post here, but I cannot talk to HMRC before Tuesday (and even then anticipate difficulties getting through to them). I was wondering whether this estimate is likely to be a simple mistake, which will be fixed easily, or whether there could be some other explanation and/or cause for concern.
With thanks (in advance) for any help.
Neil

Thank you very much for such a prompt reply.
I have not changed jobs recently. However, I was paid quite a bit more than usual for two months because I was covering the duties of a colleague who left suddenly. This has now ended, and in any case it would not have amounted to more than the amount above. Also, I had a second job (and tax code) last year, though my earnings from this were well under £1,000. I am not sure whether either of these things might be relevant.
Thanks again for your message.0 -

probably unlikely as HMRC would not have got all that information through from your employers yet.
Somehow they have made the estimation of your income for next year. They may well have counted the same income twice.
Unfortunately we can only hazard a guess and you will have to wait until Tuesday to speak to HMRC. If you can, phone around 8am and you should get through quicker.0 -
They really can be dorky - so much is computerised that no one seems to check anything...
It will be sorted with a quick call - they can't overtax you don't worry.0 -
I spoke to HMRC this morning and was able to resolve the issue very quickly and easily. They had added an extra zero to my estimated income - if only it was that simple!!! Despite it taking 15 minutes to get through at 8am, I was impressed by how helpful they were!
Thanks again for assistance and reassurance here.
