So you have a SCART lead from the VCR to a SCART selector, then another SCART lead to the TV?
No, I have a scart lead from the VCR to the scart adaptor which itself is connected to the TV, like in the diagram above that Which? recommends.Look next to each SCART socket on the TV, and they should indicate which is which - A1, A2, AV1, AV2 etc. Determine which you are using, and set the TV to that one.
I don't know what you mean by this because:
a) The TV scart is ON the TV, so how can I set TV to that one? Did you mean set VCR to that one?
b) I can't SET anything; only plug stuff in.
c) I have only 2 scart sockets on the TV and the bottom one plugs into the Virgin box and the top one has the scart 5 way adaptor on it. The other way round and my Virgin and DVD recorder does not work.Make sure the SCART selector is definitely directing the signal to the TV.
How do I check that please?
I'm certain the issue is not with the way I have done the wiring, because the wiring is exactly as it was before; with just the Virgin box and the DVD recorder. I just added a 5 way scart adaptor and put the VCR on it, then plugged the adaptor into the TV (where the DVD recorder had been) and put the DVD recorder onto the adaptor.
DVD recorder in socket 1
VCR in socket 2If the VCR has two SCARTs or more, try switching the lead to another.
No, it just has one.
I am still trying to find an old VCR to TV wire. I know I have one somewhere.
thanks
ADDITION:
I think the trouble is the finding the right channel on the TV, as it only appears to have 5 channels, and it's a Freeview TV, so that can't be right?Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
Only just realised the diagram does not link the VCR to the DVD/HDD recorder.
I think the diagram only caters for watching VHS tapes, but not to record them to the hard drive (there was no way I could tell the Which tool that info either).
I guess I need to use an old non-scart wire for that as the scarts are all taken up.Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
OK I found a found an old white wire and connected the VCR directly to the TV and it still did not show the VHS tape.
So I connected the VCR to a different TV using the same wire and that worked ok, so the problem must be the TV channels.
When I press P+ on the TV remote control to change channels it only shows 5 different (blank) channels.
Anyone know how to add more channels to the TV please?
thanks a lotLook at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0
