The German Language - Help please!

Ive got two holidays this year where German would be of great assistance. Im really struggling and find audio better than reading when it comes to trying to learn a language.
Anyone know of any useful resources online where the words are written and then spoken so that you can hear how they are spoken. Obviously for free!
I'd like to be able to understand a menu!
cheers

To be honest unless you are going to be living with a family you will get there and find you won't get the chance to speak German as everyone will want to practice their english on you.
I lived there for three years and although I learned to speak German as I was working with German people I did not come across one person who could not speak English really well and they all wanted to take advantage of having someone to practice their english with.
It is good manners though to at least attempt the language, I'm not a language person but even I found German an easy language to learn.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

To be honest, its mainly menus in restaurants I want to be able to understand. I love it when I go to France as Ive learnt all the fruits and veg, all the cuts of meat etc. Find it very frustrating when I go to anywhere where I dont understand the language.

There's a brilliant programme called "Before you know it."
The free version is excellent. There's different catergories, and each one you hear how to say a word, practice saying it, and typing the word into the keyboard.
Brilliant!
On the deluxe version you get more catergories, and apparently there's an option to say the word into a mic and the programme judges it!
But I've never bothered with the deluxe one. (I'm learning polish
