Set top box broken after 1 year 1/2? Reasonable?

Hi,
Our digital freeview + set top box & tv recorder has died after a year and a half. It no longer picks up channels, nothing to do with our aerial which I have tested by plugging it directly into the tv. It was over 150£ at the time of purchase from Argos but was actually a replacement for one that died within 12 months of purchase.
I have the receipt. Is it worth fighting with Argos?
Thanks,
BatCat

So the original purchase was 2 1/2 yrs ago? I think you may struggle with this one. Could still be worth writing a letter to them though.0

Yes, original box was over 2 years ago & returned when it broke under the argos 12 month guarantee. Had to pay a bit extra for a replacment as they were no longer selling the one I bought. It was new though & I would have expected a set top box to last longer than 18 months?0

Yes, for £150 I would say it should.
However, under the SOGA you need to demonstrate that the fault which has caused its demise was inherent. This could be expensive to do and may not come up with the right answer. Even if it does, Argos can satisfy its responsibility by giving you a proportionate refund which on a cheapish product a couple of years old could be less than £50.
May just be worth buying a new one, you have got 2 and a half years use out of your original investment - probably not far off over half of the expected life of such a product.Thinking critically since 1996....0
