Estate Agent unfair viewing policy?

Cruzy

Hi there, I am hoping someone can put me straight with a problem. Myself and hubbie went to view a rental property this morning. I had phoned the agents within 10 mins of the ad appearing online and made the first available viewing appointment and was told that that we were the first. When we went to view the house this morning 2 other people turned up to view it at the same time. The estate agent showed us around and by the end of touring around the house we noticed that one person had left. Yes you have guessed it, they had gone to phone and take the house. We didn't realize this until I rang the agents and were told it had already been taken. Surely this is an unfair system? We are so angry and annoyed at the treatment we received. Sorry this is a bit long winded but I am still upset about it. Anyone have any advice? Many thanks for reading

There is nothing you can do about it. The place wasn't promised to you or anything & agent had obviously arranged to do block viewings because of the interest in the property.
One of the viewers liked the property & straight away went to try to secure it for themselves, which was a very sensible thing to do & it paid off for them. So, next time you view a property, remember you might just need to be as quick as you can be to secure it.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
It's like that where I live - 1, 2 and 3 bed homes are just snapped up in hours of appearing on line!
Next time, use the same tactic, or perhaps you could offer to pay more than the other people?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Very common I'm afraid and very annoying.
However, make sure that you tell the EA that you are very interested and ask to be put on a 'waiting list'. (if you're not in a desperate hurry)
You never know the people in question may fail their credit check/have other problems.0 -
Hi again, thanks to everyone for replying. I was innocent and didn't realzse this went on and am still infuriated. If other people that are in the same situation as me read this then it may be helpful to them....0

the agents job is to sell the property, and it sounds like they have done a good job, Also they may have arranged viewings before posting the property online, as they may have told other interested parties about the property before the particulars were completed and posted online.0

Unfortunately it's a game that all EAs use - by booking people in together, it generates the impression of demand, and creates a pressure for anyone who's genuinely interested to act before someone beats them to it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I viewed a rental years back and the EA said to me after the viewing, if I liked it I had to be quick as I was one of 8 that day and it was very popular. They did some kind of 'sealed' bid sort of deal where I had to say how much rent I would pay and what my circumstances were ie. single, no pets, clean OCD, etc LOL0

LOL this made me laugh!. At least you got a shot at it though! What a fiasco the rental market is! :rotfl:0 -
You now realise the virtues of being on the ball in order to get what you want. You know what you need to do the next time you view a desirable property. There must be loads of them in Sheff, so I doubt this property was a once-in-a-life-time type of deal.0

What if the positions were reversed? You are the first person to make an offer - would you expect the estate agent to keep a record of who called to view first and how long would you expect them to wait before accepting an offer down the list? Remember they could lose an offer if they try to delay it.
How long did you wait before calling? I'm a bit surprised the agent has taken the property off the market on the back of a phone call.0
