Landlord Insurance

Hello

I am about to rent a property out, so have been looking at insurance cover.

My current insurance is with Co-op, who have given me, what I think is a fair quote, although not their specialist landlord insurance. They tried to put me through to the 'specialist landlord team' but it seems they don't work weekends. I tried online but it doesn't seem to work.

I therefore tried one of the 'compare' sites, actually Moneysupermarket and up popped a good quote from a company called Towergate. Although a little more than my first non specialist quote, it seems good value. The benefits of a specialist quote seem a good idea.

About 5 minutes later, the broke (CIA) phoned and after some discussion, the premium was reduced.

It seems good, but I have never heard of Towergate.

Are they any good ?

Have any reaers here used them, or use them now and what are their thoughts please.

Many thanks !

Are you sure you are getting insurance quotes which are both valid, and appropriate, for a let property?

Most comparison sites quote for residential policies which would be invalid if the property was let.

As well as comparing premiums, compare the cover. Does it inlcude 'malicious damage by tenants'? Re-housing tenants if house is uninhabitable? etc etc.

Some buildings policies also include limited contents cover (eg to £5K) to cover white goods/carpets in otherwise unfurnished properties.

You need to shop around carefully.
