EDF incorrectly estimated direct debit
Hi,
I have been on a dual fuel tarrif with EDF for a couple of years.
The first year the DD for both gas and electric was £80.
Last March, EDF reduced this to £49.
I have now read both meters and submitted readings online, these match up to their "estimated" readings reasonably well, so no massive increase/decrease in useage.
The estimated bill now puts me at nearly £500 in debit.
Obviously some of this is due to increase in energy prices which I accept. But approximately £372 (31 x 12) of this is down to them incorrectly reducing the direct debit.
Surely there has been negligence on their part by reducing the direct debit in the first place? Is there any way I can get them to reduce the outstanding debit?
Cheers,
Smokey

And what are they proposing to do about that?
Current terms and conditions state that debit balances in excess of £150 at 'annual review' will be recovered by direct debit. Look carefully at the bill small-print, it is *possible* you have been given notice of that.
Be very alert to the debit balance being collected - with or without (obvious) notice. Is there any way I can get them to reduce the outstanding debit?
There are probably no grounds for that, however a good question to ask Edf is why an interim review was (apparently) not performed. I can't give further advice until I know the answer, however you *may* be able to get payment terms if you make a good enough case.0
