AA - Breakdown cover

I just got my renewal quote in from the AA for my breakdown cover for £173  I do have Roadside, Home Start and Relay.

I have called out the AA twice in the last two years, once at home when I couldn't get the car started and another when the engine fan broke. Both times however I didn't get an AA van, just some local guy (I stay out in the sticks and drive 60miles a day).

How can I get that down as I can go to the RAC and get similar cover for £105 for the year.

Also the AA seem to have changed their names of the groups on their website, but again if I pick similar cover it will cost £89

Autoaid, £38 for roadside, home start, recovery. The £38 covers you and partner for any car you may be driving.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadside-recovery#tool and click on the tab that says "£38 fully comp cover"

Do this ^^^ I rejoin every year as a new customer because the renewal (even discounted after I phone them and moan!) cannot match the offer for new customers on their website. Also, remember to go through a cashback site such as Quidco or TopCashBack, it will probably benefit you in the long run!

Agree 100% - this is what I do. My AA renewal was something like £170 this year, and when they phoned me to see if I wanted to renew, they then reduced it to entice me (and made it sound like they were doing me a big favour). I said no, joined again as a new member for £94 via Quidco (same level of cover) and several months later received £42 cashback - so what started as a £170ish renewal ended up costing me £52.

£60 cashback on policies over £100 on Quidco.

Got my reneal down from I think was £129 to £70 by saying I had a cheaper quote which I have to do every year,Thinkng of joining next year as a new customer through a cashback site as there is more savings to be made
  • I have tried repeatedly to do the £30 AA breakdown cover via topcashback (with £21.21 cashback). I tried a couple of days ago and today and every time I submit my details, the site says that there are 'technical problems with online bookings'. Suspiciously, if I go straight to the AA website without being re-routed from TopCashback, and enter exactly the same info, no error occurs (there is also an additional box at the bottom of the screen to say whether I want to pay by direct debit or in full. Is the cashback offer some kind of ruse to make you call the AA up when you can't process it online?

I got free AA membership because I took out AA car insurance. It was a very competitive quote anyway.

Get a quote from Green Flag - I've always found them considerably cheaper than AA/RAC and they will almost certainly be cheaper if your car is relatively new (unlike AA/RAC they quote based on what car you have and its age). Called them out a few times and always had excellent service.

I realise this thread is about the AA but may as well mention that with regard to re-joining as a new customer, the RAC's terms and conditions now state:
16.In order for a Member to benefit from any new
Membership offers or promotions, a period of
one year must elapse between the Member
leaving RAC and rejoining. An application to
rejoin before one year has elapsed will be treated
as a renewal and priced accordingly. If you rejoin
RAC within a period of one year We reserve the
right to cancel Your new Membership or request
you pay any additional premium as required.

Right, phoned them up today and spoke to a very nice lady. I said I wasn't happy with the reneqal quote and she had a look at my details and offered to come down fromf £170 to £120. Ithen said I could get it cheaper on the website for £90, after a minute or so she shaid she would do it for that for roadside, relay and home start. :)

    Quite pleased today about that.
