Should we be paid for travel time when in works van?

Subject to stupid provisions in the contract - which I believe you ruled out in post #3 - my belief is yes - you should get paid.
Since the expectation is to turn up at the Van at a certain time each day then that is the start of your work day and be paid from then. If the expectation is to turn up as the site at a certain time each day then the likelihood is that you wouldn't be on such good ground.
Does the effect of working 10hrs a day take your total received wage under minimum wage per hour? You'd be on stronger ground there too.
Also have you opted out of the Working Time 48hr policy as this would put you in breach of that if not.0 -
Travel to work????? How dare they. My current job is 63 miles away and I get paid nothing. Costs at the moment £68 a week in fuel. Not even thought of wear and tear and the extra 2 hours each way. Day 5.45am to 8.15 pm.
I once had the same conversation with 2 freelance laboureres who asked me if they get paid to fall asleep between Manchester and London whilst I drove the van. Paid for their hotel, food and beer for 3 days paid them £80a day in hand and then drove them back whilst they slept. My answer started with Do you Ball and finished with Ollox.
They still came to the next job in York though.....0
