Egg describe Egg Money as "more than just a credit card" -
though the question asked by the OP is easy to understand because the Egg Money card account does pay interest when you are in credit and so it can act like a debit card insofar as spending will reduce the balance straight away just as it would if you had a debit card on an account which was in credit.

Does it offer the same credit card protection guarantees on purchases when there's a positive balance on the card?

Is it a VISA card? or MasterCard?
  • Mastercard, and a very pretty green colour. Gives 1% cashback and a small (4% gross) interest on a positive balance. I love it!

The Egg credit card is Visa.

So if I have a positive balance and I pay for something, it's a credit card transaction not a debit card transaction?

Just need to kow as my purchase charges for a credit card transaction but not a debit card transaction.

Your supplier would treat this as a credit card purchase as that is what it is.

However, I don't know the answer to gooseye's question about the level of protection you would have if there were a positive balance on the Egg Money account.

By law, the protection would not be offered as the purchase would not be on credit. Whether Egg would offer you protection would be up to their discretion.
