Banks, we have lost the will to live!

The last 6 months have seen us move job, move house, move mortgage, open new bank accounts, change direct debits, overalhaul the way we handle our money. With all the finances out of kilter for this long, things have been tight and we longed for pay-day. It arrived today! Large sigh of relief. This morning, before 8.00am I used our on-line banking facility to transfer monies to other "piggy-bank" accounts. I clicked the immediate transfer button of the Barclays On-Line banking system. I expected the money to arrive in the other accounts today (it has already left the original account)- but you guessed it, it takes three days to arrive at the other bank. Can I get at it? NO! Whose money is it? Obviously no mine yet! Who is gaining interest on it? The bank! The banks are the biggest bunch of rip off merchants I have had to deal with. We have had no end of atrocious service from RBS, HBOS and now Barclays. What is it with these people? We are supposed to be their customers and yet they treat us like something that they have trodden in.
When you complain it feels like you are being unreasonable. I am sick to the back teeth of them and have now vowed that I will stamp on them at the slightest error on their part- they do the same to us!
Rant over for now.

I'm afraid we don't have instant banking between different banks at present.
only transfers in the same bank are mostly instant
You do sound annoyed, but does the websites not warn you when sending money?0 -
What I did, was get the cash out, stuff it in an envelope and walk down the street to other bank and deposit.... that's instant but risky??0
-
depends on how much
I've seen a customer draw out £87'000 in cash once. I think it was risky, but it was how they wanted to do it0 -

I don't know if I'm missing something here but I would have expected transferring money from one account to another to take about 3 workings days.0

uktim - yes but some people think it is instant0

Well in this age, you should be able to do it pretty instantly or at least with overnight clearing. Depends if you do it on Monday it is in your account by start of business Wednesday or if they mean you dont get it until Thursday ?
It really is a case of "computer says no" I guess, because like cheques, they can be cleared in a few hours in theory. Its just a matter of the banks working together.0 -
Theirs a post like this every week.
In fact theirs one a couple of posts down.
Why do people leave such things to the last minute then they rely on them without being sure?0 -
You can transfer money from one acount to another instantly. Go to your bank, or phone them up, and request an instant CHAPS transfer. They will do it but will charge you a fee for doing so.0

Nationwide accoutns do not allow instant transfer between one another, as I discovered!! It wasn't really an issue as I was working quite far in advance (unusual for me!), but it did cause me momentary panic when the money hadn't appeared a couple of days later, so I rang up and the guy I sopke to said he had always thought it took a long time! I only expected it to be instant because it is with the other three banks I use, but Nationwide have their own rules apparently!!0
