My licence - stick with paper or go for photo id?
Comments

I will keep with the paper licence - this photo id thing seem a big fuss; having to renew the pic every 10 years. I liked the one previous to this that I had to hand in which was like a little red book.0

I’m a bit older than you and I am keeping my paper driving licence for as long as possible.
I also have a photo identity which I got for free. It’s a senior citizen’s bus pass.0 -
As no one has come up with any reasons in favour of switching, I think I'll stick with my green paper licence afterall .... but those little red books were nice, weren't they (not to mention hardback passports)!
Many thanks for all the comments.0 -
I've still got my green paper licence and have no intention of changing it unless I have to.0

I have one as well but my council will not accept it as ID.
It is not on the list of approved ID documents for my council and yet they accepted my green paper driving licence which does not have a photo.0 -
Then if you get asked for photo ID by someone and you don't have a passport what do you do like if you fly to scotland on Easyjet you need photo ID best be safe and get one if you don't have a passport0

So on the off chance that the OP suddenly decides he wants to fly to Scotland......
Change that licence now 8-00 -
Whenever I see a "Photo-ID" thread, I'm always reminded of the research study done by one of the major banks back in the 1990s.
They discovered that you were much more likely to get an affirmative ID if you had a picture of Hitler, Mussolini or Mother Teresa rather than your own pic.
This is why the plans to include photos on bank cards/credit cards etc were quietly buried!

I chose to swap my paper license for a photo ID simply for convenience, it was a pain in the neck trying to remember to carry my passport with me (the paper driving license is worthless on its own) and it's not really designed to be carried about so it was looking pretty messy. The photo driving license has the inconvenience and cost of needing renewed every 10 years but it's very handy being able to just carry it as a card in my wallet. Thankfully my entitlement all came through without issue as well which was my main concern when changing the license over.
