Capital One WARNING

Last year through some difficult times i opened up a credit card online with capital one, the amount was small only £500 after a while things got harder and i fell behind on the payments......things went from bad to worse, before i knew it it had been handed to a collection agency, non stop harassment on the phone and many letters later, i managed to have enough to pay.
This is where it gets interesting, the collection agency said i owed £760 i thought from letters and phone calls, but acutally they let me settle it for what i owed Capital One was at that time £470 if i paid in full then the £290 extra would be forgot about, i was assured and to there word it was all ok they sent a letter of payment.
NOW i was warned by the collection agency be CAREFUL with Capital One as they would try to trick me into paying the over due £290 ...... Later the same week sure as the lady had said, the letter come with capital one still claiming i owed money. I ignored it then 2 more came. I have now resolved it with a strong worded letter to them with a photocopy of the collection agency receipt.
Just be careful with Capital as i found out they can be as sneaky as a pick pocket !!!!

How did it jump from £470 to £760? Capital One actually charge a reasonable default fee and over limit fee (£12 if memory serves correctly).
Did you contact them to discuss your financial difficulty BEFORE it went to a collection agency?0 -
It jumped due to a long list of reasons, partly bank charges and also collection agency, now from what i found out they are known for this phantom collection ask after payment has been made to the agency which took the account over.
I was warned by the agency that they would try to do this and to ignore them but after several more letters i had to reply.
I did explain to them about my circumstances but they showed no lenience.0
