I work in a very small charity office (just me and four other suckers) and our IT department consists of two guys on motorcycles who are quite busy with their other, lager clients and rarely deign to answer our enquiries. We're getting them sorted out in the medium-term, but in the short term we have a problem that I'm hoping someone here can help me with.
Basically, all of us in the office work part-time. We get our email (POP3) via Thunderbird (me) or Outlook 2000 (everyone else) while we're at work, and we have web access to it when we're at home. Unfortunately, the web access is becoming increasingly unreliable and there's no spam filter so using it is like torture even when it does work.
I was wondering if there's some way to forward/redirect incoming email to Gmail (me) or Hotmail (everyone else). I've used GMail Loader to transfer my old messages, but can't find anything to forward new messages. Alternatively, I'd quite like to use Thunderbird Portable but can't seem to get it working correctly.
Part of the problem is that I know literally nothing about servers. Do I get our server settings from our ISP (Lumison) or from our IT cowboys? I can check the server settings within Thunderbird from work, but they're obviously not the same as they would be from my house. Also, someone on some webpage somewhere said that I can have our ISP forward emails automatically - is this true? I know these are really stupid questions, but I'm finding it quite frustrating because I keep getting blown off and I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere.

Yes your Domain based email forwarding can be set to forward the emails to one or more addresses, so you can have them forwarded to both your home and office simultaneously.
By Domain I mean the web based address to which your emails are sent, e.g. if your charity web address is SOS.org.uk and your email address is name(at)SOS.org.uk then you can ask the admin people to forward the emails to name(at)GMAIL,com and also to name(at)AnotherISP.co.uk - hope this makes sense...0 -
Yep, that makes sense! Thanks so much!0
